Mom Comes to England! Day 4

Saturday April 17th- Today, the volcano proved to be a bigger problem than mom or I had expected. We thought that it would just mess up the air traffic a little bit but nope, all air ports were closed with no hope of being opened again in the near future. We also thought that we wouldn't be bothered by that fact since we weren't trying to fly anywhere. We were wrong. All trains and boats to anywhere were pretty much booked. All because the airports were closed for unsafe air that was supposedly clogged and covered in thick ash... we saw no ash clouds... but no matter. We wanted to go to Dover today, I though my mom would like the WW2 stuff there. We woke up early and headed to King's Cross station to stop by Platform 9 3/4 and to buy tickets. After getting frustrated at the ticket machine we finally got on our train (with 2 minutes to spare) and were on our way to Dover!
The other people on the train with us were trying to figure out how to get back to the mainland with no planes which made us think of an emergency plan on how to get home. We came up with some pretty good ideas and I was hoping we could put them into action! Pretty soon we saw the cliffs! from the train station we took a cab up to the castle but were told we would not be able to get one coming back as all were being used to take people from the train station to the boat docks for people who wanted to get to France by boats. The volcano may not have been good for everyone but the taxi drivers sure liked it.
At the castle, we went into the old Roman church first and saw the beautiful old stain glass window!

Here are some pictures of my trip to Dover with my mom:

Look out for the cannon Mom!

Down in the "Secret" War Time Tunnels.

After touring the tunnels and the castle, Mom and I walked back to the train station. It was a fun walk, not too long and made me glad the taxis were all occupied to have a time to talk to mom. After wandering our way back to the station, we were getting hungry. And by the time we got back to the city we were starving. So I decided to take Mom to one of my favorite restaurants, Khans! She liked it too :] Liked it so much in fact, that she ordered nan bread to take home to eat later! While we were close by, we stopped in at Whitelys to pick up some of my favorite nuts, almonds dipped in chocolate then rolled in ground cinnamon, pretty much the best snack ever invented. Also yummy that we both tried for the first time was chocolate covered honeycomb. That was so yummy it surprised me how much I liked it. After dinner and eating a ton of chocolate covered nuts/honeycomb, we were pooped from our big day and went right to sleep. I'm excited for our next day together! :]
